How to Spot a Genuine CRWN Vape (and What Fakes Get Wrong)

Most “is it real?” guides tell you to look at the box. That advice is close to useless now — packaging artwork is the easiest thing in the world to copy, and the current generation of counterfeits copies it well.

What is genuinely hard to fake is the hardware. CRWN devices have a few specific engineering characteristics that cost real money to reproduce, and that is where copies fall down. This guide is about those, because we only sell CRWN and we handle a lot of it.

Start With the Thing That Costs Money to Fake

A counterfeiter’s economics are simple: copy whatever is visible, cut whatever is not. Printing is visible and cheap, so it gets copied faithfully. Battery capacity, screen hardware and coil construction are invisible in a photo and expensive, so they get cut.

That is why every check below is about what the device does, not what the box says.

CRWN Infinity: the display is the giveaway

The Infinity is a 25,000 puff device — the largest capacity we carry — and it carries a display. That display is the single most useful authenticity check on any CRWN product, because a working screen is expensive to replicate properly.

On a genuine unit:

• The readout is legible from an angle, not just dead-on. Cheap replacement panels wash out badly off-axis.
• Segments are evenly lit. Patchy brightness across the display is a bad sign.
• It responds immediately to a draw, not after a lag.
• The numbers move in a way that makes sense over the life of the device rather than jumping erratically.

A fake Infinity with a dead, dim or nonsensical display is the most frequently reported version of this problem.

CRWN Pod: check the pod seat, not the pod

The CRWN Pod is a 9,000 puff device across 25 flavours, and it is a two-part system — which gives you a check the single-piece devices do not have.

Seat a pod and look at the join. On genuine hardware the pod sits flush and square, with even pressure all the way round, and it clicks in with a definite stop. On copies the tolerances are looser: the pod sits slightly proud on one side, wobbles under light sideways pressure, or seats without a clean click. Loose tolerance here also tends to produce inconsistent contact, which shows up as a device that cuts out mid-draw.

Weight and balance across the range

Every CRWN device we carry should feel heavier than it looks. The most common counterfeit shortcut is a smaller cell in the same shell, and you can usually feel it — especially on the Infinity, where 25,000 puffs of claimed capacity has to come from somewhere physical.

If you own a genuine one already, compare them in each hand. The difference is usually obvious. If you do not, be suspicious of anything that feels hollow or top-heavy.

The Flavour Test Nobody Mentions

Counterfeit e-liquid is formulated to a price, and the first thing dropped is complexity. A genuine CRWN flavour holds its character from first puff to last. Copies tend to:

• taste broadly right for a few puffs, then flatten into generic sweetness
• turn harsh at the back of the throat as the device warms up
• lose definition between similar flavours — two clearly distinct genuine flavours will taste nearly identical in counterfeit form

This is subjective and it is not proof. But if you have had the same flavour before and this one tastes like a rough sketch of it, trust that.

Where Counterfeits Actually Come From

Almost none of it enters through retailers who hold their own stock. The overwhelming majority arrives through:

• Social media and messaging-app sellers — no business identity, no returns, account disposable
• Marketplace listings with stock photos and no physical address
• Drop-shipping resellers who never see the product and cannot tell you where it came from

The last one catches people out because the storefront can look completely legitimate. A tidy website is not evidence of anything; a business that holds stock, answers the phone and is still there in six months is.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I tell a fake CRWN from the packaging alone?

Usually not any more. Packaging is the cheapest part of the product to reproduce and the artwork gets copied accurately. Rough printing or a crooked security label still tells you something, but a clean-looking box tells you almost nothing. Check the hardware.

The display on my CRWN Infinity looks dim. Is it fake?

It is one of the more reliable indicators, but check the obvious first — a nearly flat battery will dim the display on a genuine device too. If it is dim from the very first use, or unreadable at an angle, that is more concerning.

Are CRWN pods interchangeable with other brands?

No, and treat any seller offering “universal” pods that fit CRWN hardware with suspicion. Loose-fitting third-party pods are a common source of the poor-contact problems people mistake for a faulty device.

My CRWN device cuts out mid-draw. Counterfeit?

Check the pod seating first if it is a Pod — that is the usual cause and it is fixable. If it is seated correctly and still cutting out, or if it is a single-piece device doing it, something is wrong with the hardware.

Is a cheaper CRWN automatically fake?

Not automatically — retailers run genuine promotions. But price is set by what stock costs, and nobody sells reliably below cost. A price that is well under everyone else’s, from a seller with no physical business behind them, is the most reliable warning sign there is.
